Violinist and Violist
Violinist Mami Ichikawa has won the special presentation award from Artist International Audition in New York in 2002, which gave her an opportunity to give her New York debut recital at Merkin Concert Hall in 2003.
She received her Bachelor of Music degree from New England Conservatory in Boston and Master of Music degree from Mannes College of Music in New York where she was a scholarship student.
While living in New York, she has performed as a member of New England Symphonic Ensemble and Philadelphia Virtuosi. Her venues include Carnegie Hall in New York and Suntory Hall in Tokyo. At the same time, Ms. Ichikawa has been an active violin teacher and she is a certified instructor of Suzuki Association of America.
Currently she works as a violinist and a violin teacher in Tokyo area. She teaches at JiLL Music School and is founding member of a Latin jazz unit “Latin Classica a la Mode”.

*Started the violin at the age of six under Namiko Fukaya
*Later studied under Iwao Fukui, Shigeo Sasaki, and Kosaku Yamaoka
*As a soloist and chamber musician, participated in the Royal Academy of Music Summer Festival, the Koblenz Spring Festival, the Weathersfield Music Festival, the Interharmony Music Festival, the Japanese String Teachers Association Music Camp, and the Ogikubo Music Festival.
*Played in the former New Philharmonic Orchestra (now the Chiba Symphony Orchestra) on a part-time basis. *Graduated from Musashino Academia Musicae (1996)
*Obtained an Artist Diploma from Oberlin Music Conservatory, Ohio, USA with an Oberlin Music Conservatory Scholarship (1999-2001)
*Awarded an Eckstine Scholarship (2001)
*Graduated with a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University in 2002
*While in the United States, studied under the Pacifica Quartet, Sibbi Bernhardsson, and with world-renowned teachers Almita and Roland Vamos
*Winner of the Grand Prize of the “Ogikubo Music Festival” (2003)
*Almost 25 years’ teaching experience, with students ranging from kindergarten beginners to advanced adults who play in amateur orchestras

Since graduating from Musashino University, Ms. Kumada has performed as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player in numerous concerts and music festivals in many parts of the world. She also performed at plays, and worked with artists, using a variety of musical genres and styles.
The years spent living and studying in the United States with Amita and Roland Vamos, teachers of numerous international prize-winners, had a profound effect, not only on her development as a violinist, but also on her personal growth and worldview.
While living in Beijing from 2009 to 2013, and bringing up three children, she continued to perform and teach. As both a teacher and a mother, she has had much experience connecting with children, and tries to encourage them to improve their technique, in a light, fun way.
With all her students, Ms. Kumada emphasizes technical proficiency, along with growth as a musician. She tailors her lessons according to the kind of music the student would like to be playing. She wants her students to be able to enjoy and make the most of this unique opportunity to learn the violin. In addition to Japanese, she is able to teach in English.

Momoko Saruwatari (Jingu Mae/Ikebukuro/Ueno) English

After being graduated from Kwassui Women’s University in music performance and studying at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Japan, Fukuoka native Momoko SARUWATARI currently performs as a flutist with the Yokohama Bay Orchestra while also teaching at the JiLL music school.
Since high school, SARUWATARI has participated in numerous music competitions and has performed publicly throughout Japan.
One of her most notable performances was with the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra where she was selected by the Japan Federation of Musicians to perform the concerto for flute and strings by André Jolivet.
SARUWATARI holds the highest certification (level 3) by Yamaha for wind instruments and has taken master classes by world-renowned flutists Sir James Galway and Pierre-Yves Artaud.
During college, SARUWATARI studied under Akira Nagata and Hiroaki Kanda.
